An engine that shakes at a stop or cuts out can point to ignition, fuel, or sensor problems that are best caught early.
New noises from under the hood often mean a part is wearing or oil isn't moving the way it should. These are worth checking right away.
If acceleration feels flat or your gas mileage drops, your engine may not be running or firing the way it's meant to.
Smoke from the exhaust or a burning odor can signal an oil leak, a coolant problem, or something overheating.
A temperature gauge climbing into the red means stop and call. Running hot can cause major damage quickly.

frequently asked questions
WHY IS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?
Your check engine light comes on when your vehicle’s computer detects a problem somewhere in the engine or emissions system. The most common causes are a loose or failing gas cap, a bad oxygen or mass air flow sensor, worn spark plugs, or a catalytic converter issue, though it can also point to something more serious. The light tells you there’s a fault, not what it is. Our ASE certified technicians in Franklin, TN can read the codes and pinpoint the real cause.
WHAT WOULD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MEAN?
A check engine light means your vehicle’s onboard computer has stored a trouble code for a fault it found in the engine, emissions, or a related system. It might be as minor as a loose gas cap or as significant as a misfire, a failing sensor, or a catalytic converter problem. The light alone won’t tell you which one, so the only reliable way to know is to have the stored codes read and tested at the shop.
HOW TO CLEAR THE CODES ON A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
Check engine light codes are cleared with an OBD2 scanner plugged into the port under the dash, and they will also clear on their own once the underlying problem is repaired and the vehicle completes a few drive cycles. The catch is that clearing a code does not fix anything. If the cause is still there, the light returns, and erasing the code wipes the data a technician needs to diagnose it. We recommend reading the codes first, then repairing the actual issue.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS?
A blinking or flashing check engine light is more serious than a steady one and should not be ignored. It could mean your engine is actively misfiring, which can send unburned fuel into the exhaust and damage your catalytic converter in a short amount of time. Stop driving as soon as it’s safe and have the vehicle checked right away. Call us at 615-790-3600 to get a diagnostic check at our Franklin, TN shop.
Do you offer loaner vehicles while my car is being serviced?
